My Story
I started Woodwise Media because local businesses deserve better marketing.
I’m Matthew, and I founded Woodwise Media because I kept seeing the same thing: talented tradespeople, brilliant professionals, and hardworking business owners in Shrewsbury and Shropshire who were great at what they do — but invisible online.
Before starting Woodwise, I spent over a decade working in PPC and SEO. In a previous role, I built wellbeing solutions for some of the UK’s biggest organisations — including National Highways, the Department for International Trade, Coleg Gwent, and Bytes. I also created the Planned Future portal, a financial wellbeing platform that gave employees access to expert resources and financial advisers, helping bridge the financial advice gap. It went on to win the Innovation and Excellence Award in 2024.
That experience taught me what good technology and marketing looks like at scale. But it also showed me something else: local businesses — the ones that actually hold communities together — rarely get access to that same level of quality. They’d either never invested in marketing because they didn’t know where to start, or they’d been burned by an agency that took their money and delivered nothing they could measure.
I knew there was a better way. Marketing doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or confusing. For most local businesses, a handful of things done well — a strong Google presence, a website that converts, targeted ads when they make sense — is all it takes to transform how many customers find you.
That’s what Woodwise Media is about. I work with a small number of clients so I can give each one genuine attention. I explain everything in plain English. I report on the numbers that actually matter. And if something isn’t working, I’ll be the first to tell you — and change course.
I’m based in Shrewsbury. I meet my clients face to face. And I genuinely care about helping local businesses grow, because when they do well, the whole community benefits.

I focus on local businesses because that’s where I can make the biggest difference.
